Here is the very definition of irresponsibility. Dr Carpenter, who practices out of private gated community Pecan Plantation in Hood County, sent out a memo inviting the Glen Rose Healthcare Inc doctors and their spouses to come out for dinner to wine and dine a doctor Ellison they want to shmooze into coming to practice. Here? In Somervell County? No, in Pecan Plantation at the Pecan Plantation Medical Clinic. (I remind here, as I often do, that Hood County has its OWN hospital district, for which the residents pay NO taxes, and yet WE, Somervell County residents pay OUR taxes for the benefit of residents in that private gated golfing community. I also remind that WE, as taxpayers, PAY for the doctors who are in a separate county in a separate hospital district, as employees of the Somervell County Hospital District )
The memo says
Dr Carpenter would like to invite the physicians and their spouses for dinner at Inn on the River on Friday, February 19, 2016 to meet with Dr Ellison, a new recruit for the Pecan clinic. He has asked that we get as many providers as possible to be present to meet with her. Please save the date!
Just the other day, to all appearances, Ray Reynolds and Michael Honea went, hat in hand, and behind the scenes, to Brian Watts, the Somervell County auditor, to apparently ask him to help arrange a loan to the Somervell County Hospital District. Why? Because the District did not believe it could make it's mandated bond payment and needed some help. The very night of this meeting, the Somervell County Hospital District voted to spend over $200,000 on yet another loan for... wait for it.. Pecan Family Medical Center, to remodel it, and get more equipment. Who benefits? You? Me? Nope. The people who live in upscale Pecan Plantation behind that gate. And Ray Reynolds did not even bring up the fact to the elected board that he had gone to try to arrange to get out of paying the bond by floating a loan with the county.
To add to the egregiousness, Somervell County Hospital District called a meeting, which was cancelled, to ALSO vote on only paying the interest on loans and no principle. The date of that meeting was February 2, 2016.
And now GRMC wants to get another doctor, a female, Dr Ellison. And they want to take her to an upscale dining place in Glen Rose, and put on the dog. All the doctors and their spouses are invited. I would expect that Dr Burroughs is not included, since she is not employed by the hospital. But probably Ray Reynolds, Michael Honea and others will attend, after all Ray Reynolds is not only CEO of Glen Rose Medical Center but also the head of Glen Rose Healthcare Inc. How much is a dinner at Inn on the River? $59.00 a head for a 4 course dinner. That will Give Dr Ellison a Pleasant Experience So She Will Go to Hood County's Pecan Clinic an experience of well over $1000.
As a side note, have to wonder if, like Dr Vacek, Ellison is being offered a signing bonus, moving expenses or even had her way paid down here to tour the facilities? Is she from some other part of the country to where she was flown down, put up on a local motel, meals paid, etc while touring? Here is from Dr Steven Vacek's contract.notice that he was paid $15,000 signing bonus and had $15,000 relocation expenses to move here.
HOW IS IT that the Somervell County Hospital District does not REIN THIS IN?
