Local gossipy Glen Rose stuff

Local gossipy Glen Rose stuff

Got a copy of the Glen Rose newspaper yesterday. A few people had told me of this, which is apparently in competition with the Glen Rose Reporter now. I had been told that it was a newspaper oriented towards females, a newspaper that will print letters to the editor ... free (something the Reporter currently does not do), and/or a newspaper that is actually not a community newspaper but is selling some product. Don't know, but here are my initial impressions.

The newspaper says it is providing free issues for two months, which is probably a smart business decision if you're going head to head with an established newspaper in a county of this small size (second smallest in Texas). Has lots of pictures and the most informative description of the school board meeting held this last week that I have yet read. Reminds me of the newspaper I used to get in Alvin, TX when I lived there.  (Update: I won't do business again with the Glen Rose newspaper, here's why.)

Looks to me that Billie Jones, publisher, may be the one who owns Specialized Office Solutions of Granbury and  has put out real estate sales newspapers.

I see in the Reporter that the Glen Rose Medical Center has a helicopter now for transporting critical care people within a 150 mile radius.

Was told that originally the TTC (Trans Texas Corridor/TxDot) people thought they'd see about putting the route right through Glen Rose until the Judge pointed out to them that there's, uh, a nuclear power plant here. Guess that's one benefit of having nuclear power!

I'm working to set up a TTC followup meeting here in the county that will be strictly non-partisan, but to examine the distaff side of the dog and pony show that TxDot put on this last month. So far the date will be August 22 at the Senior Citizen Center at 6:00 pm.
