Candidates who will not say they are Democrats, straight out, but run on the Democrat ticket

Candidates who will not say they are Democrats, straight out, but run on the Democrat ticket

I was annoyed, last year, when Chet Edward's campaign literature, didn't say he was a Democrat, but independent. I don't have a problem with people wanting to run as an independent, but it seems to me that if you want to get money from Democrats, that you ought to be proud to put, right up front and center on your website and your campaign literature, (go ahead, do a search for the word Democrat in this)  that THAT is the party you're affiliated with.

Chet Edwards literature again says that he is "Independent", and I understand that he wants bipartisan support in the district, AND that's why he has voted the Republican way on a number of significant issues rather than with the Democrats. But I personally believe it's long past the time to step up to the plate and be proud about being a member of the Democratic party; someone told me a few months ago that she used to whisper that she was a Democrat and felt a little ashamed when she was out and about with Republicans-heck, to me, it's Republicans that ought to be ashamed-they're the party that has endorsed torture, spying on Americans, war-mongering, gutting of the 4th amendment, death of civil liberties via the Patriot Act... etc. And the Democrats that go along with them should be ashamed, too.

It isn't that I have anything against someone running as Independent. Heck, look at the governor's race-there are 2 candidates that are Independent, although they are both really leeching votes away from the Republicans for the most part. But here's the deal-neither one is running AS a Republican.

I am for having more than just 2 parties-there's nothing in the constitution that dictates that we are a two-party system; it's just, to me, that Republicans lose more often when there are more choices, so they changed the laws  and both parties have made inequities so that the incumbents in power have a stronger basis to run than a 3rd (or 4th or 5th) party newcomer. But since, right now, the deck is stacked for 2 parties, the people that choose one party or another to run with need to be PROUD of being a member of that party. If not, join the other team.
