Texas State Railroad with Van Os/ Bell/ Hathcox/ Head/ Gilbert/ Thompson/ Davis and Charlton

We jumped up (well, crawled out, really) at 5:30 am to make the drive from west of DFW to east Texas, aiming to hear Chris Bell and other candidates at the Texas State Railroad in Palestine, TX.  I knew Bell was going to talk about how Perry is misspending funds that are supposed to be for our parks, and was looking forward to seeing David Van Os (running for Attorney General), Hank Gilbert (running for AG commish), Fred Head (running for Comptroller)  and associated friends and company. I was pleasantly surprised to see Valinda Hathcock (running for Land Commish), Charlie Thompson (running for TX House District 5), and Sharon Davis (running for TX House District 8).

I've been wanting also to go on the Texas State Railroad ride for a long time, always seemed like it would be so charming going from Rusk or Palestine, stopping in the State Park where you can eat a picnic lunch, and then riding back... all in the midst of some of the prettiest forested scenery you can find in Texas. And it was. Lots of people out there today... it's more than a shame that this is one of the parks that Perry could have on the chopping block. After the ride, Chris and the others held a news conference to talk about Perry's failure, will have video on this probably tomorrow on a separate post, along with more pics)-UPDATE- LINK to the VIDEOS

For now, here's a snack for what's to come-click on pic to see fullsize

LOOK how pleasant this looks. Don't YOU want to go there?

Another pic of the train, it would be shame to let Perry get away with cutting the funds for this.
