Ruminations of the Easily Amused for 3/22/2015-New Rooster Edition

22 March 2015 at 4:13:09 PM

Roosters around here are too many or not enough. At one point several years ago I had 3 roosters which acted like a band of toughs. 2 of them would chase the chickens down and generally harrass them. During that time one of the chickens would run up to me and fly into my arms to escape. Plus, anytime I ordered chicks online, I owuld get extra rooster chicks to pad out the box and keep all warm. Really wanted a rooster, though, and today one of my friends told me that someone had one on Facebook's Buy and Sell. Got the most BEAUTIFUL rooster. The other birds don't seem to know what to make of him, though . One of the americauns is cautiously following him around and he seems to be following her, as well. Makes for some fun on a rainy day.

Still don't have those capacitors. Ugh. I really do want to try to fix that monitor which is still spread out all over the kitchen table. Also ordered myself a USB 3.0 PCI card with 2 ports. It's so funny, I don't think of my computer as being that old but I guess it is, the USB ports are all 2.0. Thought about it and decided if I put in a 3.0 USB card with a USB 3.0 4 port hub that ought to take care of the external goodies that I'd like to run faster. The PCI card doesn't require its own power source, where it might have to be if it had, say, 4 ports, so that's why the hub that DOES have its own power source. Hopefully next week will be the week when I can put all this together, including fixing the monitor. I feel pretty lucky that, as a female, I've had such a good well-rounded experience with computers for years, everything from soldering components on circuit boards, to being an inspector for circuit boards (scraping off, for example, extra solder to keep the circuit lines clean, to doing tech support for BIOS chips and boards such as the Mach20 (previously known as Breakthru 286-Microsoft bought the card from PCSG and marketed it under Mach 20) to of course, various software and operating systems.

Here's some good news. Toll roads meet opposition in the Texas Lege

The pushback against toll roads and toll lanes has been simmering for years, and can largely be traced back to former Gov. Rick Perry’s 2002 proposal of the Trans-Texas Corridor, a massive 4,000-mile network of privately operated toll roads, railroad tracks and utility lines. Public opposition to the plan eventually prompted the Legislature to declare it dead after first approving it. Yet toll projects continued to flourish around the state. Texas now has more than 500 miles of tolled highways, most of it developed over the last decade.

Over the summer, the Texas Republican Party removed a provision from its platform backing “the legitimate construction of toll roads in Texas” and replaced it with language opposing some aspects of toll projects in Texas, particularly the use of public money to subsidize private entities.

“Ever since the Trans-Texas Corridor, people have been incensed about the issue,” said Perry Fowler, a longtime infrastructure lobbyist in Austin who is now executive director of the Texas Water Infrastructure Network. “It’s certainly does seem to have hit a breaking point.”
