Somervell County- Flush Times are Over.... (2014)

Saw this article from Sept 6 2014 Fort Worth Star-Telegram that talks about how the tax rate is the same but now Somervell County is dipping from reserves while Luminant pays 1 million bucks less than what it did last year in property taxes. One good thing is that the article mentions Mike Ford's term as judge will be OVER at the end of this year.

1 - M.K.Pennington   8 Oct 2014 @ 9:06:00 PM  Glen Rose is losing tourist dollars. Why? Each time a family comes down from the metroplex and asks to buy liquor they are turned away and sent to Granbury or Walnut Springs. By the time they drive elsewhere the kids are hungry, tired and suddenly they are spending their money elsewhere. If you want to see what liquor sales can do for a small community, take a look at both Granbury and Walnut Springs. My loyalty to Glen Rose businesses overrides my personal opinion of alcohol.Somervell County does not have enough buying public to support all our businesses. Convenience stores and shops on the square struggle daily! We seriously need to bring back our tourist population. There are many posts & discussions on this forum about lack of business downtown and here is how you can personally help your local business community. Please drop in at The Red Barn General Store to sign the petition. As of today, Oct 8, only 5 days remain to submit the petition to get this on the ballot. And please pass the word to others you know who also live in the city limits and are registered voters. Together we can give Glen Rose its much needed boost! Thanks! MK Pennington

M K. Can you explain what the petition actually is asking for? ie, is it asking to have liquor stores in the city of Glen Rose? Is it asking to replace membership cards with liquor by the drink? Is there a definition of the type of liquor (ie, beer and wine versus, say, rum?.
