Ruminations of the Easily Amused for 9/22/2014

22 September 2014 at 12:23:40 PM

Time of year to start ordering wildflower seeds. Have worked really hard over the last 15 years to make a covering over calechi and rock and, at least in some previous years, have had some fabulous bluebonnet displays. That pretty much ended after the drought year so working again to build up some nice side of the driveway displays.

Have been spending some time attempting to get the younger donkey halter trained. Not doing so well so far. I'm going to ask a friend who trains horses to come help me, as I'm clearly out of my depth. I tried just putting a rope across his back, nothing else, and it spooked him so badly that, hah, he wouldn't come near me again for 45 minutes. The goal is to get him halter trained so I can then get him gelded.

Justice Department Texas voter ID trial

The Justice Department says a two-week trial has shown that a tough Texas voter ID law substantially discriminates against minorities and should be scrapped.

U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos began hearing closing arguments Monday in Corpus Christi. She isn't expected to rule before Election Day, meaning that an estimated 13 million registered Texas voters will need a photo ID to cast a ballot in November.

Can't make this stuff up - Sarah Palin defends daughter Bristol Palin after drunken brawl

Coyne wrote of the incident, "At this point, he's up against nearly the whole Palin tribe: Palin women screaming. Palin men thumping their chests. Word is that Bristol has a particularly strong right hook, which she employed repeatedly, and it's something to hear when Sarah screams, 'Don't you know who I am?' And it was particularly wonderful when someone in the crowd screamed back, 'This isn't some damned Hillbilly reality show!'"

Or was it? hah

This burger looks gross Not the bun which looks like pumpernickle but the filling.

Speaking about corporal punishment in public schools.

hahah! Rick Perry sticks his foot in his mouth again-uses Joan Rivers as an example for abortion clinics

Perry stuck a number of wrong words in the wrong place — and not just those that use Rivers's death to defend a law she almost certainly would have opposed. The 81-year-old comedian stopped breathing earlier this month during a procedure on her vocal cords. The exact circumstances of her death are still unclear, but as The Guardian notes, the Yorkville Endoscopy Center where Rivers was treated actually is an ambulatory surgery center.

"The reality is that complications happen in all areas of medicine,"responded Heather Busby, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Texas. "There’s risk inherent in just about anything. You could have a heart attack and die while having your wisdom teeth removed. Should we outlaw wisdom teeth removal?"
