Done with the National Football League- Ray Rice Actions DISGUSTING

NFL is SCUM. TMZ got the full video of Ray Rice punching out his fiancee in the elevator. The NFL comissioner had the FULL video before they gave Rice ONLY a two-game suspension.

It's been some years since I've watched football regularly (as opposed to World Cup Futbol, which is MUCH more interesting). Hub and I used to regularly watch our favorite teams until the NFL started changing how it presented the games. First, there was Al Michaels, and later Dennis Miller, who decided to mix political commentary with Monday Night Football. Then, for some reason, the NFL decided to start militarizing the games, by bringing military onto the field at EVERY game. From 2013

As "Wretched Excess Fueled by Commercialism" is what actually appears printed on the dollar bill, though in Latin so no one can understand it, the obligatory nod to Uncle Sam’s armed might has now grown to the point where the exaltation of the military is a much anticipated and fully integrated bit of entertainment within the main event of the sporting contest itself.  Every true American heart surely beats proud to see unfurled a Stars and Stripes so large that it now completely covers the playing field and as the national anthem is played the flag starts to move just like an amber wave of grain, wiggle-waggled by the platoons of national guard boys and girls holding to illustrate the "still waving over the land of the free and the home of the brave."  And the crowd gets it, thundering out its approval.  And then there are the military honor guards, the signs on the walls, and jumbotrons honoring "wounded warriors" while proclaiming how our troops are keeping us free, and the crowds of men and women in uniform filling every available space, guests of the NFL.  And finally there is the super-dooper bigger than ever fly over of whole wings of F-16s, shaking the stadium to its foundation and bringing on another bellow from the boozers.  When the crowd noise subsides the announcer solemnly proclaims that it is an honor to be televising the game by way of the Armed Forces Network to American troops in 175 countries and on ships at sea.  "I just can’t describe what they do to keep us free," he concludes.

I don't mind the superpatriotism in the form of singing the Star Spangled Banner, but sheesh, Football tied inseperately with militarism is wrong. It's a SPORT, not WAR. Or maybe I'm the one missing the obvious connection. At any rate, I wanted to watch the SPORT without the extreme overtones, so I quit watching.

Saw in the last few days on CBS11 that ticket prices are up over 12.4%. If each average ticket price is $265.31, what about a family going? Please. I don't think I would care so much if the public taxpayer subsidized NO PART of Jerry Jones venture. But we do.

Now, knowing that the NFL commissioner KNEW and SAW Ray Rice punching out his girlfriend in an elevator while giving him ONLY a mild wrist-slap, I won't be going back to watching the NFL. At the time when a partial video of Ray Rice dragging his girlfriend out of the video came out, I saw Keith Olbermann discussing how the NFL's actions showed a lack of basic human respect for women.

A month later, Goodell finally apologized.

Goodell sent out a letter this past week to his owners, the ones who elected him, and here was the most important part, before he got to the part about the next player guilty of domestic violence getting a six-game suspension, then getting kicked right out of the league for a second offense:

“At times, however, and despite our best efforts, we fall short of our goals. We clearly did so in response to a recent incident of domestic violence. We allowed our standards to fall below where they should be and lost an important opportunity to emphasize our strong stance on a critical issue and the effective programs we have in place. My disciplinary decision led the public to question our sincerity, our commitment, and whether we understood the toll that domestic violence inflicts on so many families. I take responsibility both for the decision and for ensuring that our actions in the future properly reflect our values. I didn’t get it right. Simply put, we have to do better. And we will.”

Plus, the NFL got rid of Pam Oliver and replaced her with a young blonde.

Too late for me. I don't know that I will never ever watch an NFL football game again in my lifetime, but for now, I want to watch sports that are fun and respect their audience. That doesn't include the current NFL.
