Hmmmm. Somervell County Judge Mike Ford moved to Hood County, specifically Pecan Plantation recently. We heard he has sold his home in Somervell County and has moved all his furniture to the new special digs.  Hat Tip to interested Somervell County citizen who alerted us to this, screen capture from the Hood County appraisal district website .  While you are looking at this, do take a gander at how much hospital district taxes he is going to pay for Hood County and you'll see a big ole GOOSE EGG. And yet, Somervell County citizens pay for the clinic at Pecan Plantation that we as citizens cannot even enter. Ain't it great for Mike Ford to work SO HARD to saddle Somervell County residents with a hospital district tax and then run off to live in a different county where he can golf all day and pretend he's a big shot.

Take a look, put your comments in

I am told by his office, 897-2322, that he is renting here for now. The intent of the residency requirements for County Judge are clear though, you should actually live here, not just keep an address. I left them a message that he should resign, if he doesn't want to live here he should not be the judge here.

Exactly!  What if our commissioners did the same thing?  Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out right from wrong. A judge is supposed to clearly look out for the best interest of the County he SERVES, Ford has consistently failed in this regard!  His track record speaks for itself. He should have been indicted long ago for his under handed deeds!

What's interesting to me is the idea that someone sells a home, moves to another locality, but then rents out an apartment or other temporary residence. Suppose someone actually lived in Granbury, but then rented a home in Glen Rose and had, say, his girlfriend living there to establish residency in order to run for office. Would that be okay? Here's an interesting article, not on someone who moves after taking office, mentions Brian Birdwell who we all know violated the law and was not living in Granbury long enough to meet residency requirements...  but running for office. These people in some cases rented out homes because they lived outside a given district IN ORDER to run for office-I've seen plenty of people catch flack for doing this, even though this practice might be technically legal.

Why do people care about this? Because you especially want a local official who represents you to live under the same rules and bylaws that everyone else does. I recall when that Exxon heir, Van Taylor specifically moved to West, Texas ,just so he could run for office-he lived in a posh neighborhood in Dallas before that- people called him a carpetbagger. I also felt that Hilary Clinton was a carpetbagger for specifically moving to New York to run for Senate. It's not that people don't do it, it's that, at least for me, it smacks of political opportunism, and the desire to get (or perhaps, to keep) a job.

Perhaps Mike Ford will live in an apartment for the next NINE months rather in the probably plush home he just purchased, where all his furniture is, so that he will have to defer the delights of living in upscale gated golfing community for awhile-or maybe he will only go visiting on weekends to see his home, look for an hour or two and then return to his apartment residence. The larger issue with this is that he is ultimately going to go to a place where he will not be subject to the tax codes that he pushed on Somervell County residents, to include that 14.4 million dollar certificate of obligation debt that the county still has and owes. In my opinion, people need to vote very carefully next time there's an election to make sure such as he doesn't get voted in again. Not sure when the runoff is but pretty soon there will be a chance to vote in a new judge between  2 runoff candidates. Choose wisely.
