I'm fed up with Washington and this 'Fiscal Cliff' melodrama that has turned into some kind of embarrassing soap opera that only proves that we here in America simply cannot manage ourselves or solve our problems intelligently.
First of all, Social Security has nothing to do with the budget deficit, the national debt or the "fiscal cliff", yet the Democrats and our President, who did very well in our last election, still don't have the cajones to fight off the Robber Barons who don't give a hoot about the productive ones in this country, the ones who have made them wealthy. I'm sure John Boehner has a difficult job but do I feel sorry for him? No.
If we go over the cliff, then at least taxes will once again become appropriate and the bloated, wasteful military budget will be automatically reduced. In my way of thinking, going over the "cliff" is preferable to agreeing to permanently lowering SS payments to our senior citizens and our future senior citizens because at least it would require taxpayers to pay their fair share for the services they have come to expect and for investing in a healthy country that offers fair economic compensation and advancement. Social Security is not an entitlement, it's an investment made by low to middle income workers who have turned this country's workplace in to one of the most productive in the world. It's not Social Security that's running us into the ground. It's Exxon-Mobil paying 2% taxes. It's letting Wall Street play fast and loose. It's the incredible amount we spend on wars. Need I say more?
So let the canoe go over the falls and expose the puppets for who and what they really are. Then change the filibuster law. Use the Fourteenth Amendment to give the President the right to control the debt limit. Write an Amendment to the Constitution to take gerrymandering out of partisan control. Enact an Amendment to end the Citizens United decision that corporate entities are people and instill term limits and campaign reform. Reaffirm the right of workers to organize for their own benefit. Enact new legislation to fund stimulus to create jobs that will rebuild the once great infrastructure our county used to have…this isn't rocket science. The electorate has spoken. What is it that the Democrats and the Republicans in our government don't understand?
What a disgrace.
