The Election is Over

So, Now What?

7 November 2012 at 7:24:47 PM

I won't pretend that I'm not relieved that President Obama was re-elected. I also know that I live in a Red State, one that is rabidly Republican. It's shocking to me when I go to vote how many offices there are for re-election where the Republicans face no opposing candidates. It's really hard for a Democrat in Texas to get elected. The fact is, after all this hullabaloo and money spent on the campaign, we are pretty much where we started.

I think most Americans share more things in common than not. One thing we all share is that we are fed up with the ideological dysfunction in Congress that has absolutely stalled our country's ability to solve problems. Insisting on solutions based upon ideological purity apparently does not result in any solutions at all. I believe it is our responsibility as citizens to embrace this reality and demand that our legislators to do the same. None of us will get our way, completely, so let's get over it and move forward.

Moderation is the key, like it or not. There's simply no other way to progress. It's time we accept this reality, all of us, left or right.  We can't afford not to.
