Beef Products Inc. closes it's 'Pink Slime' factories...

The company has been on the defensive since the Meat Industry's most secretive money saving ploy was unmasked 2 weeks ago.  Beef Products Inc. started closing its factories this week, while supermarkets and fast food restaurants stopped using its "Pink Slime" product.

One of the company's arguments is that it's "lean beef substitute is 100% beef" and asks what should it call the product since "it is 100% beef?" 

I say that the ingredients should show Ammonia on the package so that American consumers know that "the 100% beef" is treated with the chemical.  Consumers should also be informed as to how much of the packaged beef is actual ground beef vs. "Pink Slime" substitute.

"LET THE BUYER BEWARE!"

With you. ALL those products that are treated with chemicals to make them look fresh or take away the stink need to be labeled. I used to buy pork at one grocery store and it always tasted funny. I thought maybe it was just me, but when I bought some from a different grocery store, the pork was delicious. I can only assume that something may have been used on the other pork to try to keep it fresh.

I think I said so before but the HEB in Granbury told me that they grind all their own beef and don't use pink slime. It's a really nice store. And they don't require store cards.

In addition, there is no way for consumers to know the ratio of beef to "Pink Slime" in each package of ground beef.  There is no oversight of consistency on that quantity.

Both merchants and government failed consumers.  It is amazing that this has been such a well-kept secret and also frightening to consider what else is being hidden from public view in our food and beverage system.

In my original post I stated that HEB is one of the supermarkets that does NOT use "Pink Slime" in their ground beef.  Now, after the public's awakening many other stores, markets and fast food establishments are following suit.

Another reason NOT to vote in the "Let's Have No Regulations" party. I feel happy every day that at least Secessionist Rick with his crazy ways that he outlines in "Fed Up"  didn't make it on the national stage.

Yeah, Salon, but food and beverage ingredients have oversight, a.k.a. regulations, by private companies AND government!!!
