Dartmouth University GOP Debate --- who won it?

12 October 2011 at 5:13:45 AM

My first impulse is...

Was THAT a debate or a coffee klatch?

Goof of the evening award goes to Herman Cain stating that he would model his financial go-to person after Alan Greenspan, the former Chair of The Federal Reserve.  WHAAA???  What a rotten choice that was!  Greenspan [and the FRB] was one of the causes of our financial decline.  I loved that Ron Paul shook his head in disbelief as Cain made the statement --- mostly because I did the same thing.

Trance State award goes to --- of course --- our own Rick Perry.  The only words out of Perry's mouth the entire evening were:  "Energy, energy, energy... like Texas did... energy, energy free competition... energy, energy... that'll get American back on track... energy, energy, energy... etc., etc."   At least the Texas Governor didn't flub-up this time in a major catastrophic way.  Clearly, Rick Perry doesn't know squat about the major issues Americans are facing and he doesn't have a clue about how to fix the real problems.

Truest question posed to another candidate award goes to Ron Paul, who said Herman Cain said things about the Federal Reserve that Cain swears he never said, but he did.

Most boring response award has to go to Michele Bachmann.  If I have to hear one more time about her 28 kids being the reason she knows about education and health care for children I may have to shoot my TV set.

Most animated yelling award goes to Rick Santorum who blew-up a few times like a Portuguese Blow Fish.

So, who won "the debate" last night?

I have to give the "W" to Mitt Romney.  The more I listen to Romney the more I am impressed that the guy makes the most sense of the GOP bunch and he handles himself the best under pressure.

Would Romney make a good President?  Who knows?   But I am most worried about the GOP members being in control of our lives.   They don’t have a good track record and they seem to be a mean-spirited bunch of yahoos who don’t really care about the poor and rapidly declining middle class.

How do you feel about the Dartmouth "Debate" ?

I will vote for Ron Paul. I suggest you do the same.

Well, I have to say, I totally agree with you on your assessment of Cain.  Ron Paul said it right when he stated that Cain spoke like a true "insider".  He's nothing more than a FRB plant.  9-9-9 equals so much more when a calculator is pulled out.  Yeah, let's give the Fed Gov yet another way to increase taxes in the long run.  All that plan yells is V.A.T.  Perry was a retard, Mitt's answered were basic and contentless, Bachman has nothing and the rest are forgetful.

As a Ron Paul supporter, I just don't see how folks can't like him.  If folks could get past the left/right paradigm and put the interests of America first and not their party, we'd get America back again.  Until then, you'll get nothing more than a talking head from either side spewing rhetoric and appeasing their cash cows.  Ron Paul has the cleanest record up there and deserves to be given a shot.  If he's not given the nod, I believe he'll run under the Liberty Party anyway.

Pstern, I thought you supported Ron Paul.  Was I wrong?  Or did you but are thinking Mitt Romney?  Just curious.

Hey, you guys...  I also am voting for Ron Paul.  I have been a supporter for the past 12 years.  Check out many of my previous writings on Ron Paul.

One of the reason Paul doesn't get votes is that there is a lot of misinformation out there on him, e.g., that he is a racist.  Many people believe that, but I have researched thoroughly on the topic and have NEVER seen anything to corroborate that one.

Some thinking people don't want to vote for Paul because of his stance on the Federal Reserve, which he wants to eliminate completely.  Many feel that the FR should be monitored better and be more transparent, but Paul wants to get rid of it.  A lot of people believe the U.S. economy would sink from sight without the privatized FR elitists printing our money and making our economic decisions for us.

Lastly, Paul is a character.  He is animated.  A lot of people think he's nuts.  He also seems to have the ability to "push people's buttons" when he speaks, as he did in the debate when he discussed holding individuals accountable when they opt not to have health insurance but then go to the ER for treatment.  People often mis-hear what he says.  He really does need to develop some better people skills to be more successful.

I agree with Ron Paul 90 percent of the time on the issues.  That's pretty darn good in my opinion.

Furthermore, the GOP does NOT support Ron Paul.  To the party, Paul is a Libertarian, which he is, so he goes against a lot of the current GOP platform.  He is an outsider to his own party.

Lastly, Paul generally does NOT have the huge $ war-chests that his opponents have.  However, this year he is doing better in contributions than in previous years.  At least now, via the debates, he is getting some more national publicity, which he needs in order to reach more Americans who are tired of the usual politicians.

I still think Ron Paul is a great choice.  I also think that there may be someone else waiting in the GOP wings who may jump into the Primary race sometime down the road.
