Protesters trying to flood into Wall Street to raise consciousness and support

17 September 2011 at 5:49:48 PM

We do need jobs, health care, quality public education, and no one seems to be listening to us or trying to help.

So, protesters via Internet, Twitter, Face Book, etc. are trying to get some attention on the real issues.  It isn't playing politics.  It is trying to get some focus on the true issues, the urgent ones.  Good luck with that.  I mean it.

Posts on the website compare the group’s efforts to those used in pro-democracy movements across the Middle East, dubbed the Arab Spring.

“On the 17th of September, we want to see 20,000 people to flood into lower Manhattan, set up beds, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months,” one statement says. “Like our brothers and sisters in Egypt, Greece, Spain, and Iceland, we plan to use the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic of mass occupation to restore democracy in America. We also encourage the use of nonviolence to achieve our ends and maximize the safety of all participants.”

Various groups are present in New York City, e.g., Code Pink, to get the media and Wall Street business sector to take note that Americans are sick and tired of it.  We need jobs and we need to be taken more seriously than a bag of one dollar and 59 cent marshmallows.

I give the demonstrators a lot of credit for doing this.  It's a commitment that few Americans opt to take these days.  I wish them well, but I'm not sure if it will help.  It's just that no one takes us and our needs seriously any more.  The cost of living goes up while we spiral downward.

Where are all the leaders?  We don't need hand-outs.  We need jobs to help ourselves.  We need to stop the increasing home foreclosures.  We need to stop being crapped-on by our leaders and their special interests.

Banks and big business need to stop destroying the American economy and to let the American people share in their prosperity.  Why should they all make fortunes overseas while Americans become financially bankrupt here at home?

So, good luck to the demonstrators at Wall Street.  I wish them well.
