Just have to say-the way to watch debates is with twitter

We don't have cable/sat so I live-streamed the Ronald Reagan debate through the computer from MSNBC's website. I wasn't really going to watch but thought following twitter hashtag #gopdebate would be hilar. And it was. If you haven't used twitter to follow events, you have no idea how much fun it is, not only to add your own comments or reply back to people or retweet, but to read the snarks. So entertaining. To me, the adults in the room were Jon Huntsman and Mitt Romney; the cartoon characters were Rick Perry, Michelle Bachman, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul. Rick Santorum and Herman Cain fell somewhere in the middle of that.

What's fun to me, first, is to watch and see who avoids answering questions or Answers the Question They Wish They were Asked. That was Rick Perry, who clearly had rehearsed some talking points and stumbled on every answer. The second thing will be to look the day after and see who was spouting bullchit.

A few things that made me laugh. Rick Perry bringing up Galileo but from the WRONG side. heh. Ron Paul saying that border fences are a bad idea because they might keep us in. Ron Paul and the shiny dime. Newt Gingrich clearly miffed that he didn't get to answer a question FROM THE LAST DEBATE and wanted to bring it up now. Newt Gingrich angrily saying that all the R's in the debate were pals and Let's Not Create any fighting. C'mon, that's why I was watching, to see the differences. Rick Perry saying he sleeps just fine at night (death penalty executions). What was weird was how much applause he got from the killers in the audience-no doubt NOT pro-life! Rick Perry avoiding an answer about why Texas health care is in the toilet but trotting out his Jobs mantra. Rick Perry is against social security, says it's a ponzi scheme (showing he has no clue what a ponzi scheme is) and MONSTROUS. In fact, Monstrous is apparently one of his favorite words:). Ron Paul saying he's against FEMA. Oh, REally, Ron Paul, you're from TEXAS. heh. Rick Perry lying about clean air and water. Rick Perry clearly annoyed being asked about gardasil and no one said the word MERCK. He trotted out that he had been concerned about cancer and said that he would always stand on the side of saving lives... ooops... see his high record of executions!  Rick perry saying "Government spending will not create one job" and no one said, well what about your Texas Enterprise Fund then? Heh. I thought Mitt Romney's jokes trumped Rick Perry's and definitely Huntsman and Romney look like rational people, as opposed to the nuts. Oh, almost forgot. Rick Perry said he would issue an executive order his first day in office to repeal Obamacare -AGAIN WITH THE MISUNDERSTANDING THAT CONGRESS PASSES LAWS- guess that makes his whole apology about Garadasil and issuing an executive order a joke.

Anyway, I"m in twitter *jail* because I tweeted too much so I'm off to watch a movie.

The book is The Music and the Life of Beethoven by Lewis Lockwood.

One reviewer calls it "That rarest of achievements, a profoundly humane work of scholarship that will appeal to specialists and generalist in equal measure."  Terry Teachout, Commentary

Another says: "Lockwood writes like an angel: lucid, enthusiastic, stirring and enlightening. Beethoven has found his ablest interpreter." Jonathan Keates, The Spectator
