LOVE this story from Rulesofthumbook

He looked at the two Mexicans.
"You all know what a bidness plan is, right? That's what you got to have when you want to start a bidness. Well, in Texas, if someone writes up a bidness plan and then goes to the government for some kind of assistance, well, they got to show the government their bidness plan. Now, under all those laws, that means that bidness plan could be read by just about anybody who wants to. So that's how transparency works, see? It's a double-edged sword."
The meeting was over soon.
After Perry left, I looked at the two gentlemen from Mexico
They shrugged.
I tried to apologize to them, although I had nothing to apologize for. Other than being an American and in the same room.
Finally, the young, handsome Senator said, "I'm glad he explained what a business plan is. That wasn't something we covered when I was getting my MBA from the Stanford business school."

Lloyd Doggett on Rick Perry

Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) is on a media blitz this week as part of his mission to sink Governor Rick Perry's candidacy, lending a Texan face to national Democrats' efforts.

"He's arrogant, he's full of himself, he just fits the stereotype that is sometimes misapplied to our state," Doggett told TPM in an interview. "We all are really proud to be Texans, but we're not proud of what he's done to our state."

Doggett urged voters to look at Perry's recent cuts to K-12 education as a model for how he would govern. After insisting that the legislature not dip into the state's rainy day fund or raise taxes to help make up a shortfall this year, the governor forced deep cuts to social services instead , including $4 billion in education funding.

Rick Perry's baloney Jobs Miracle

Rick Perry, the latest U.S. presidential hopeful, has said he wants to make the federal government “inconsequential”. Yet as Texas governor he has presided over the creation of more government jobs per head of population than Washington. These and other new jobs have been good for Perry’s state. But their origin contradicts his small-government rhetoric.

Though Perry’s critics may argue the point, Texas has weathered the downturn better than many other states. But it turns out job creation in the public sector, not the private one, has made much of the difference. Since the beginning of the recession in December 2007 through June this year, the number of state and local public service jobs grew by 6.5 percent, according to government figures. The private sector, meanwhile, is still playing catch up with non-farm employment down about 0.6 percent.

In fact, state and local governments in Texas have been hiring like crazy since Perry took office at the end of 2000. The number of government jobs in the state, excluding federal ones, increased 20 percent from January 2001 through June 2011.

Rick Perry unpresidential

Texas's unemployment rate is still above 8%, which means that half the other states in the US have lower unemployment. A high number of the new jobs Perry boasts about are minimum wage. One of the consequences of that is that Texas has the highest proportion of people in any state without health insurance – one in four – while "liberal, tax and spend" Massachusetts has both lower unemployment and near universal healthcare.

Texas is also an oil state, which helped it ride out much of the recession on the back of high petroleum prices. Perry's critics say that offers no lessons for dealing with the US economy as a whole.

"Perry's narrative about jobs in Texas looks great at first blush, but it has ginormous holes upon closer scrutiny," Cook said. "Yup, Texas has jobs. Texas is a pro-business state. So what? Texas has always been pro-business, and we've almost always been near the top of the heap in job growth, and were long before Perry was around to take credit for it. And under his 'leadership', those jobs he brags about are crappy jobs – we have twice as many minimum wage jobs as anybody else in the country."

Texas also has one of the worst education systems in the country and a notorious environmental record while Perry continues to say that there is not sufficient scientific evidence to prove the existence of global warming and promises to scrap much of the US's environmental legislation including regulation of pollutants.

Money Rick Perry made on land deals.
