Secessionist Rick Perry Is On an Apology Tour-*I'm So Sorry for My HPV Decision*

15 August 2011 at 9:29:02 AM

Texans know what Rick Perry did. He got campaign money from Merck and immediately set out to make Gardasil shots mandatory for little girls. The Texas Legislature balked, so what did Rick Perry do? He issued an executive order and WENT OVER THEIR HEADS TO TRY TO FORCE the issue. He got sued and the Attorney General got involved and he was STOPPED. That was in, um, 2007. It is now 2011. Rick Perry has NEVER apologized for trying to be King and in fact has tried to justify why it was okay. He even went so far as to blame the Texas Legislators who didn't fall in line with his edict.

Until apparently, yesterday.

A few hours after unveiling his campaign for president, Perry began walking back from one of the most controversial decisions of his more-than-10-year reign as Texas governor. Speaking to voters at a backyard party in New Hampshire, Perry said he was ill-informed when he issued his executive order, in February 2007, mandating the HPV vaccine for all girls entering sixth grade, unless their parents completed a conscientious-objection affidavit form. The vaccine, Merck & Co.’s Gardasil, would have protected against the forms of HPV that cause about 70 percent of all cervical cancer, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control.

"I signed an executive order that allowed for an opt-out, but the fact of the matter is that I didn’t do my research well enough to understand that we needed to have a substantial conversation with our citizenry," Perry said at the Manchester, N.H., event in response to an audience question about the HPV controversy, according to ABC News’ The Note. "But here’s what I learned: When you get too far out in front of the parade, they will let you know, and that’s exactly what our Legislature did, and I saluted it and I said, 'Roger that, I hear you loud and clear.' And they didn’t want to do it and we don’t, so enough said.”

Instead of making the vaccine mandatory, "what we should of done was a program that frankly allowed them to opt in or some type of program like that," Perry told the New Hampshire gathering.

So Now He is Apologizing. Gee, isn't he the flip flopper that tells Republicans to Stop Apologizing? Not that I'm not glad he's finally doing the right thing but this is going to be talked about anyway all the way until the elections because it's an example not only of his rashness in rushing into actions for the benefit of those who contribute to his campaign but also that he thought he could just act as King and do what he wanted, damn Texans.

And I ask you, he's now running for president, and FOUR YEARS LATER, trying to get the votes and NOW he apologizes. Strike anyone else as pandering and insincere?

We can now add him to the Countdown Hall of Fame

P.S. As long as he's busy apologizing, maybe he needs to apologize for trying to land grab private property in Texas for a gigantic toll road that would be operated by foreign company Cintra. He could start with the Texas Republicans who he sneered at. Oh, forgot, all HE did was just change the name since Texans were furious with him and break the toll roads into little pieces to sneak them in.

He's a liar and a flake.

UPDATE: He's been lying and saying that he's been one of the first to admit he's wrong. Bullchit.

We need to get Perry out of politics and let him become the PR General Manager of Merck or some other unholy corporation.  That's where he belongs, NOT running and ruining our state or nation.

Perry stated that he was trying to fight cervical cancer, but that he should have gone through the Legislature.

“I readily stand up and say I made a mistake on that,” Perry said.

Interesting to note that Perry did NOT apologize for his Executive mandate that young school-age women to be vaccinated. He only apologized that his tactics for achieving this were wrong.
