UPDATE #2. Hood County News via Twitter.
Wildfire burns over 500 acres
(Posted Today 09:56 pm)
A wildfire near the Hood-Somervell county line Thursday evening has burned over 500 acres with firefighters able to save about six homes, Hood County Fire Marshal Brian Fine said. Firefighters were about to get control of the fire, Fine said about 9:50 Thursday night. The fire, which may have started from lightning, Fine said, began in Somervell County and moved into Hood County near Paluxy.
UPDATE #3- Still burning today. Just heard the fire scanner, fire near some structures.
Update #4- 10:04 am- still hotspots around the edges, can't get them without a dozer.
Update #5- 10:58 am near 3 monkeys ranch on 1008, called for more brush tranks and tankers.
Update #6- Can see the smoke from the window, probably some 5-10 miles away from fire. Hood County firefighters have returned to help out http://www.hcnews.com/shownews.asp?category=20&id=8477&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
PLEASE keep us all informed. Just came from 51 & 205 and gave our county map to an out of area fire truck and crew trying to get to the fire. It's very bright and in the trees at 1008 for sure the sheriff department tells us and going north.
Looking east from chalk mtn.........fires still flaring and sky is red........nuke plant appears east and south from where I stand on my place........was told by a friend on text that scanner Hood County they were evacuating around gas wells in the immediate area.......
Me too. I really wish it would just dang rain, and not the little half hour we had the other day but a day long good soak. Everything is so dry and it's going to be worrisome until it does rain. Thanks to all the firefighters in Somervell (and probably Hood County too) that are working hard tonight:)
The fire on CR 1008 broke put again today which was expected due to the winds and low humidity. Air attack forces have been used. The fire continues to burn but is not a threat to residences at this time
Getting realllly big again. Drove up to 205 and red flame retardent being dropped now. Also, two planes/copters dropping water for last several hours. Several black smoke areas can now be seen from Chalk mtn. Prayers for all.
Ugh. We've got the sprinklers going all around the house. I don't guess it would do too much good if the wind shifts and heads a different direction. It's so hot. Had a chicken that passed this afternoon due to the heat. I'm glad the forest service is doing the water buckets.
I saw the plume driving back home from Fort Worth today around 5:30 pm and couldn't tell for a long time if it was on the Granbury side of the Comanche Peak or beyond. By the time I got to 144 out of Granbury, it looked like it was reduced somewhat and definitely closer to Somervell. Brutal heat today.
I'm so sorry about your chicken, salon. Don't forget to put water out for the wildlife, too, even if just a few buckets and containers and birdbaths.
Latest update from Somervell EMC Dwayne Griffin aropund 11pm
Four heavy helicopters, four small planes, 10 engines, four dozers from the Forestry Service, one sizer from a private citizen, nine units from various departments of Hood county fire dept, 8 units from the Somervell County VFD and approximately 150 firefighters were utilized today at the fire. I want to thank all involved in the efforts including all the food and water donated to the firefighters
actually I think that update was at 10pm but around that same time Somervell EMC Dwayne Griffin also said
The fire on CR 1008 increased in size to about 800 acres. Firefighters will be back at first light in the morning. We hope to have the fire fully contained soon. There is no expectation of evacuations. The winds are fanning the fires to uninhabited areas of Somervell and Hood Counties.
The fire you see to the east is in Johnson county. Several of our assets will be leaving today to go assist on that fire. The CR 1008 fire is contained. Great job by our fire department and I cannot say enough about Hood County. Our neighbors hev been here the whole time. Thank you to all the firefighters that have been here.
