Bwahahah. Perry *I Compare Myself to Jesus* vetoed a bill that had been passed by both parts of the Texas Legislature that would have made it against the law to text while driving. I absolutely liked that bill -who can be handling their phone to TEXT while DRIVING? It's about as bad as drunk driving, in my opinion. It isn't only children who do it, I've seen plenty of adults weave all over the road. I've also seen ADULTS shave, put on makeup, read, watch television, and all other kinds of stupid things while cruising down the highway at 70.
So what reason does Perry have for vetoing this bill which would have saved lives or injuries?
Texting while driving is reckless and irresponsible. I support measures that make our roads safer for everyone, but House Bill 242 is a government effort to micromanage the behavior of adults. Current law already prohibits drivers under the age of 18 from texting or using a cell phone while driving. I believe there is a distinction between the overreach of House Bill 242 and the government's legitimate role in establishing laws for teenage drivers who are more easily distracted and laws providing further protection to children in school zones.
Right. Reckless and Irresponsible. Except that while Perry KNOWS it's Reckless and Irresponsible, he's just fine with adults doing it.
What a panderer. The ONLY reason for him to say this is so that he can suck up to the ones that don't believe in government intrusion into our lives (which he's all for UNLESS it's something he WANTS to do to intrude into adult lives, particularly women). Or something he wants to do as a favor to his Big Pharm pals(can you say Merck?) to force young girls to take shots.
What about MY personal freedom to be able to drive down a highway with my kids in the car without irresponsible drivers acting like they're home on the couch instead of driving a huge mass of steel? Shall we just get rid of ALL laws? After all, ANY law constricts My Personal Freedom. Blah.
He's a liar and hypocrite. Hey, how about this, Perry. If you REALLY believe that adults should be able to do what they want in the privacy of their own cars, how about move to get rid of seat belt laws for adults? Or open container laws? Pretending the driver's seat is the appropriate place to get ready for work? After all, if an adult can operate a potentially dangerous weapon like a car without needing any "micromanagement" then why stand in the way of an adult to do as he or she wishes?
Except that you're running for office and you will say ANYTHING to look like a nut to those who hear your dog whistle.
P.S. And don't read any further if you can't take bad language but this from the Superficial was spot on.
Also, this is why I laugh at libertarians. (Yup, here we go.) Whenever I hear one of them rail about speed limits or traffic lights or any type of law that keeps people from killing each other, and they literally do this, I just want to grab them by the holster (You know they’re packing.) and scream, “Do you not realize people are assholes?!” Every single one of us is to some degree an epic asshole of deadly proportions which is why we have laws or the roads would be nothing but a goddamn death race strewn with the bodies of idiots who think “living free” means not having to stop at a red light.
