Ready for Corporate Welfare of $20-40 BILLION Bucks? Comanche Peak Cleared Environmentally

Yesterday, the NRC and Army Corps of Engineers issued a joint statement after a hearing in which environmental concerns about 2 more reactors were dismissed.Go read the release at the link above from NRC for the exact details and note that there is still more to be done before new reactors would approved. The FW Star-Telegram:

Luminant officials have said that federal loan guarantees are critical to the project, which the company estimates would cost $15 billion to $20 billion.

Right. Because, as we've repeatedly said, private investors see these reactors as highly risky. Yup.  So the ONLY way Luminant can get this built is if they can get you and me to be the investors and take on the risk through government loans. SUCKERS!!!!!

And the untested, unproven Mitsubishi design? That's not approved yet-that's the SAFETY review.

The commission said earlier this year that a safety review of the proposed expansion will be delayed 18 months, giving the agency more time to review the design of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries advanced pressurized water reactor selected for the project.

As a side note, love the spin on the safety report. Victor Dricks said Comanche Peak has some *room for improvement*. Heh. Like what?

For example, the commission found that a lube-oil storage building at the plant could potentially pose a "fire/explosion hazard" and that the plant's "fire brigade" had not undergone training in using its on-site firetruck to draft water from the adjoining Squaw Creek reservoir.

Reactors 3 & 4 will never come to fruition because this project is economically unfeasible. As far as the environmental concerns having been addressed, well, this is simply ludicrous. None have been addressed and never WILL be. These people are all in bed together and they don't care about the rest of us.

Reduce your energy usage and get passionate about it.
