The Party of Fear

19 August 2005 at 11:05:36 AM

We read yesterday that an RNC spokesperson said that Democrats were the party of fear. After we finished laughing, we soberly considered that frivolous statement. One, citizens in this country are not being told that there is nothing to fear but fear itself, appealing to their higher natures to be internally strong and confident that we as a country can weather any storm.

More importantly, the Republicans have a need to remind people of horrendous events in order to re-awaken any slumbering fears about our country. Bush used the images of the 9/11 dead in his presidential campaign. And he presumes to attempt to tie the failing Iraq War to 9/11 in order to sell it, even though he has said Iraq had nothing to do with the tragic events of 9/11.

His poll numbers show that a majority of people don't believe that the Iraq War is going well, and they don't trust him. Therefore, he is going to try to persuade people that what they know to be true now isn't so, because he says so. He and the Pentagon are planning some public relations spectacles to again try to falsely tie 9/11 to Iraq and raise the fear level about our future.

How about some truth, Mr. President, and appeals to our better, rather than baser natures?
