Oakdale Park Manager Will Be Contract/No Benefits and Minimal Experience - Sept 2010 Glen Rose Town Council

28 September 2010 at 4:50:34 PM

Remember how we posted the job description the other day that Ronald Bruce, City of Glen Rose supervisor, came up with for someone to run Oakdale Park? We thought at the time that it was woefully lacking in someone who was experienced and responsible. Last night, the city voted  on hiring a manager, and it used the same description. C'mon. How do YOU hire for a job? Isn't the LOGICAL thing to do to make your job description FIRST and then hire FOR the position. How are you going to make sure you have the best qualified person if you don't have the description locked down in the first place? You do NOT just put an ad in the paper  and "see what we get".

The contract will be $20 hour with no benefits, that is, not a city employee. They didn't say but will the contract have overtime, or who manages it on weekends? Or would that be double time or time and a half? If this is a full time job, then that's more than 40 thousand bucks for the year.

On the audio, not this clip, but there was also some discussion of using park hosts as managers.

The city has no decent plan for the management of Oakdale. Whose going to be available when a visitor has a plumbing leak at    3 am on a Sunday morning?

I heard that Boyd Plumbing Company offers 24/7 service.  But I believe they only use Lane Plumbing at Oakdale..... they used them for something like $6000.00 worth of renovations and didn't even bother to get other bids... that's the city at work.
