Video-More on those Golf Carts the City of Glen Rose is Considering for Oakdale Park-UPDATED

Wrote about this before here. At the City of Glen Rose Town Council meeting yesterday (August 9 2010), one of the agenda items was about spending a chunk of money for 2 golf carts. Moose aka Dwain Whitfield, was not there to answer questions, so it was tabled, with the idea that maybe there would only be ONE golf cart considered.
Here's what I don't understand. One of the reasons they said they needed golf carts was for the cleaning people. But the cleaning people are part of a company, right?(Update-no, they apparently work directly for the city) I thought originally they worked for their own company but I refer back to the Glen Rose Reporter newspaper on July 28 2010Adams works for the city.
Second, Whitfield said that his wife, Sandra, with Adams Cleaning, was hired not by him but by Billy Huckaby, director of the Glen Rose Convention and Visitors Bureau who was over Oakdale Park's renovation until he was shifted back to focusing on events and City Superintendent Ronald Bruce was made the “go-to” guy at Oakdale.
I asked Huckaby about that. He said "technically" he hired Whitfield's wife, but said that Whitfield brought him her application materials and recommended her for the job.
Besides an interesting thought about this that the golf cart(s) would be there to benefit Whitfield's wife, among others, and therefore maybe someone other than Whitfield ought to be pushing it, another facet to this had to do with linens. According to the video below, Ronald Bruce said the cleaning girls (girls?) are using their own personal vehicles and they are the ones that approached the city about getting golf carts (or told hubby)
Apparently the city council had decided that they were NOT going to do linens. Yet that was the reason the golf carts were requested. So, what happened? You'll hear on THIS video clip that despite the city deciding they were not going to do linens, Billy Huckaby went ahead and said they were. City again said, Well, we're not going to do linens (and of course Huckaby is no longer in charge of Oakdale but back to his job) and that this solves the problem.
BUT.. then Bryant brought up that they could use the golf carts for courtesy vehicles in case somebody got injured, etc, sort of a *courtesy* cart.
My point is this.
The *girls* who clean asked for golf carts because they were driivng their own vehicles and wanted the city to pay for a way for them to take the linens between cabins. (I'm sure a hand cart like hotels use would have been out of the question.)
Because the city had no intent to do linens and only because Huckaby apparently said to do it anyway, if the *girls* don't do linens, that ends the NEED FOR A GOLF CART OR TWO, RIGHT?
Except that now that the whole issue of having golf carts has been raised, EVEN THOUGH THE ORIGINAL REASON IS MOOT, council member want to find some other reason to justify having one.
If the city just dang well wants to spend the Oakdale money to get golf carts, regardless of whether there's a valid reason or not, they should just say so and not bring up Oh! Here's Another Reason once the original justification is shut down.
P.S. When I was at Oakdale yesterday I saw that the cleaning woman was driving a vehicle from cabin to cabin, don't know what it was, have heard it might be a *gator*? So the city has at least one vehicle that *is* being used already.
Yup. From the August 23 2010 Glen Rose Town Council meeting where the golf cart issue DIED and Dwiain *Moose* Whitfield said that they're using the gator.
what did I miss? Why did Oakdale hire a cleaning service? They always used to hire workers at minimum wage to clean the cabins, so why now a cleaning service? What became so much harder about cleaning the cabins, and why can't they walk with a basket or something? Not like it's long distances and that's why it's called work... it's work.
I am not clear on this. I thought originally it was a cleaning service because Whitfield's wife works for Adam's Cleaning. But she was apparently hired directly by the city and is an employee. She is under the category of maintenance on this salary/wages list for 2009. Cleaning company or not, Ronald Bruce said at the meeting on Monday that it was the *girls* who asked to get the golf carts, reason being linens to be taken from cabin to cabin. BUT turns out that it was Billy Huckaby that, despite the city saying they weren't going to do linens anymore, just up and decided to do it anyway. So, the city is NOT doing linens, that solves THAT problem. IF the reason originally was to get golf carts to take around the linens, then there's NO reason anymore to have golf carts unless somebody wants to dig up another reason.
I'm with you about the work. Plus this is budget time and workers had their merit raises suspended in order to balance the budget. Why again the need for golf carts?
wow...new here...have 2 new business' just a few yards outside the city limits so I can't gripe to much, but I get a little steamed everytime I read about this. I'd be really po'd if my tax $$ went towards that cheap looking "renovation" at Oakdale park. It's historic to Glen Rose and should be treated as such. Granted, I don't pay "city" taxes but my business boasts about small town, historic Glen Rose etc...And the golfcart issue...I have to assume "Moose" and Mrs. "Moose" will not be an issue for very long after the newspaper article.
