Social conservatives on the Texas SBOE vote to use Texas public education fund for PUBLIC SCHOOLS privately owned charter schools.

I am glad to see that Gail Lowe, who is not only chairwoman of the SBOE but also our representative, voted AGAINST it.

Looks like the AG has to get involved to see if what they are trying to do is legal.

P.S. Excellent editorial by the Waco Trib re: this.

Besides the inherent riskiness of some charter schools, which she suggests are broadly unproven yet (with notable exceptions), she worries about the poor example of “putting this money out there for charter schools at a time when our school districts, especially the small ones, are hurting because there’s not enough money.”

Don't forget these schools are PRIVATELY run and don't have the same standards as public schools
