April CVB Report
Hectic would be a word that mildly describes life at the CVB right now. We are busy with Oakdale, with are busy with an advertising program to launch Land of the Dinosaurs and the summer season and we are busy implementing a new group tour initiative.
The CVB and Fossil Rim have teamed up to produce several tv commercials which will air in the DFW market. We had a film crew that shot three hours of video and almost 1,000 photographs in Glen Rose. We will own the footage and photographs to use on other projects.
We continue to receive great media coverage. I have included an article that was in Group Tour Magazine (a national magazine) and a supplement that was in the Austin American-Statesman. Channel 11 out of Abilene has been in Glen Rose, as well as Texas Country Reporter, in the last few days.
Our advertising campaign for the summer includes advertising statewide in print, radio and tv. We are also doing an extensive direct mail and internet effort. This weekend, Solavaca Ranch is hosting a bike ride that is expected to attract between 400 and 600 rides from all across Texas. This is a good example of how the CVB is working to attract new events to the area. Solavaca wanted to do a major race but needed volunteer help, so they approached the Fort Worth Bike Club to be involved for a fundraiser. The Fort Worth group was hesitant because they were afraid the event might lose money. So the CVB offered to provide financial support to guarantee the Fort Worth group would not be at risk financially. The result looks like it may be a huge event, weather permitting. Hopefully I can give you more details at the city council meeting.
I will be out of town April 28 & 29 to attend the Texas Travel Counselor Show in Corpus Christi. This is an annual event where we will have a booth and have the opportunity to educate the travel counselor about Glen Rose. This is especially important this year since we have a new attraction. Although I am out of town as always I have access to telephone and the cvb e-mail and website.
As always the Glen Rose Convention & Visitors Bureau is working to find new and innovative ways to market and promote Glen Rose and Somervell County. If any of you have any questions or needs concerning the CVB, please do not hesitate to contact me or Joyce.
