Is it HOT TODAY OR WHAT!!!!! We put up a hammock in the yard between some chinese pistache trees yesterday and tonight I intend to go lay in it in the late afternoon... with a lemonade.. or something.

I'm pretty tired of political parties. So's California.  I like this idea.

Not a fan of Jessica Simpson. This pic, especially the expression on the lady to the left, cracked me up.

A Preacher on prayer in school.

I do think American evangelicals conflate too often Christianity with American patriotism, which leads to wanting to fight battles the New Testament gives us no directive to fight. I don't know exactly where Rev. Smith is going with his final words, but the American flag is no talisman for prayer. Your prayer doesn't need it to reach God and your prayer doesn't need it to offend unbelievers. (In many cases, I would think it would be an unnecessary offense. Why insist on the flag? Just persist in prayer.)

Love this-about biking to work in Dallas

A city shouldn’t have to “get used” to alternative, healthy forms of transportation. This city needs bike lines, a plan for nearby residents to commute safely to downtown, and a real conscience about promoting healthy commuting for a city known for the opposite. I am not Lance Armstrong, but I also don’t want to be that dead squirrel on the pavement.

Still Nation Building and it costs LOTS of money-The Rag Blog

On May 30th (just a few days away), the United States will have wasted over a trillion dollars on these two wars. While the Republicans (and far too many Democrats) whine over not having the money to help our own citizens in this terrible economy, there seems to be no end to the spending of money to continue the nation-building and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Congress is currently considering another emergency Defense Appropriation Bill to spend tens of billions more on these two unending wars. Will this new expenditure of tens of billions of dollars (which will be followed by spending even more billions) actually accomplish anything? Probably not, especially since I'm not at all sure the government (or anyone else) knows what we are trying to accomplish or whether these shifting goals are possible to accomplish.

FOIA is for citizens.

Should government tax money be used for religious purposes?

An outspoken Chicago-area atheist who successfully fought Illinois' "moment of silence" in public schools has threatened to sue a group restoring an 11-story cross on southern Illinois' highest point if it doesn't repay $20,000 it got from the state.

Rob Sherman claims it's illegal and inappropriate to use taxpayer money to rehab the 47-year-old religious icon billed as a towering testament to goodwill, but the Bald Knob Cross of Peace's caretakers politely waved off his blusters during a meeting this week.
