What Has Happened to Glen Rose-CONTINUED

27 May 2010 at 4:07:45 PM

First off, I just want everyone who reads this to knkow that I'm a citizen of Glen Rose just like everyone else.  My comments here are my own and this is how is I feel about what is going on in Glen Rose.

As for my blog from last night.  I have spoken to a friend of mine and told her about what I wrote here.  Knowing full well that no one knows who each other is.  I explained to her that I was just voicing "my opinion"  and that no one would probably read what I wrote here.  Well, I was wrong alot of people have read it and that's good.  It gives everyone an incite on someones opinion that is not affiliated with the City or County.  And that is not someone who is in office or wants to be in office.  This is what "I" see going on.

I have a teenager that is in school just like other people.  For the longest time I have hear her say that there is never anything to do here.  Which she is partly right.  Some people can not afford to send their child to Oakdale Park to go swimming with there friends, they have to go to Big Rocks and swim at their own risk.  Granted I feel that every child should now how to swim.  And there should be some place where our kids can go and have a good time.  Instead of having to drive to Granbury, Cleburne or Fort Worth.  You all know that there has been several times that  kids from here have gotten into wrecks going to other towns for something to do.  Why can't Glen Rose spend some money on some kind of place for the kids to go to so that they will have something to do.  Or do they only care about the bottom dollar.

I drove thru Oakdale Park earlier and there was 4 city trucks there around one builing.  What they were doing I don't know but, I have not seen any big changes that they have made or even fixed since the City has taken it over.  There was more people at Big Rocks than Oakdale.

Now as for the Council meeting on Monday.  If a person owns property in the city limits, buy they live in the County, do they not have a God given right to voice their opinion on something.  Or is that all a matter of who you are.  I have been hearing some negative things on the Mayor and people are not happy.  I have heard of some people that are afraid to speak up due to the fact that they are scared of the Mayor and after what I saw on Monday, I don't blame them.  I thought running for office you were suppose to be for the people and not for getting stuff done for yourself or for your friends.  How does that benefit the City and all it's citizens.  It does not it only benefits that Mayor and her friends.

I was kind of hoping that they might put a community center on the vacant lot to the east of Oakdale Park. Heck, I was kind of hoping that they would, as Bob Stricklin has mentioned, set a meeting date for the citizens to weigh on what they think of the Bud Surles Gigantic RV Park plan. About Oakdale-I believe they are doing interiors right now, maybe around the old skating rink?

@lookingtothefuture-you will be VERY glad to hear that Chris Bryant spearheaded a resolution voted on at the June 142010 meeting that LOWERS the price of swimming. It was really great to hear Bryant, Mitchell and Martin talk about how they wanted to be in line with other pools and do this for citizens.

Salon, yes  I was very glad to hear that they voted to lower the prices at Oakdale and in fact I was at that Council meeting.  I was really shocked at what has taken place with the employee that they almost let go.  I have known him for 20 years and I have never heard of him NOT doing his job.  I almost laughed when the answer to the question of who would replace him if they decided to let him go.  One of the people that was mentioned does know the codes but I have my doubts on the other since he is realted to a council member.  The other thing that gets me is the fact that (now this is only my opinion) the council does not know there employee handbook or the policies that are in place.  An employee has to be written up 3 times for the same infraction before he/she is to let go.  Granted, I feel that the council , or one in particular, did not make himself clear on what exactly the problem is/was.  I have spoken to the same council member about other issues with the city and nothing has been done about it.  The bid that they have in place now for road repairs can be done by the current employees, but I guess doing other things is more important.  Such as trimming trees.  My husband watched them trim trees on our street one day last week and guess how many were trimmed?  ONE TREE. I believe that was due to the person doing did not know how or what he was doing.
