Rough Transcript (where I can hear it, some a little intelligible) on about half.
Official call to order. Billy. Sorry you didn't know about it. Last week, basically what do you think it ought to be, community project, pie in the sky. Did make some assumptions of using additional property 5.8, 5.9 acres, layout of property. Prykryl. Already ready to purchase but haven't closed on it yet. City holds it. Oakdale.... hospital close that road. I was highly involved with my day (Jimmy Pierce?) Round Rock. Practical experience. we certainly have a diverse group. Kind of talked about prioritizing the list. Go around the room and figure out where priorities lie. Trena- pool, community would be very upset and vocal about it, add to the pool... I have a survey that I have sent out to lots of people..because people all meeting and sitting around in no way competing with local hotels. Campers .. don't want to stay in hotels, what happens when that area floods. Houses, private enterprise. One big building with a kitchen used for family reunions, several good buildings that might be recoverable. Festivals last on list. Moderation. Totally against turning Oakdale into ? 17 acres..Mike-We don't technically own it yet. It's going to have to go through a what do we want, talk to a planner, get it designed. Purpose of this board to be proactive, to advise, before we get to that point we need to have our evaluation... Trena-survey is quite long ... from those ideas I started a survey. Mike you had mentioned stuff like ? Trena. Some are not doable, way too many, I assumed you wanted us to prioritize the things that were talked about last week. Mike-you didn't include all the things we talked about. .. Jimmy(?) Having some areas segregated so that it is a city park, people of the town camping, versus RVs. People tend to stay with their buddies with RVs. People that aren't staying at the campground you don't want them walking through. May wind up more feasible, bigger RVs, being able to have electricity, water... Being able to pull in to there. Trena-All around the pool. Tres Rios before it got sold. Harder to find camping places. Preservation of the cabins. 28 buildings? Shopping area, fruits vegetables of all sorts. You cannot compete with us. Billy Huckaby his job to get people to come here to stay in the hotels. Under the guise of economic development..... Ronald. Can't have a closed building, roof and 3 sides, open air. Trena-I feel .. I have been talking to the citizens. Chris(?) Going to take diversity and some conflict. Trena-but if the city really doesn't think it matters.... (?) Can we get them to tell us? Trena-I think ya'll know what their goal is. Ronald. Idea is to get the park, refurbish it, walk the river, have festivals, have movies. Some of the businesses don't agree. Chris-Festivals. Smaller stuff focused on first, take a while to get built up. There are going to be some of those that we aren't looking for, but that's for the future. Huckaby-quilting festivals, doesn't make a whole lot of noise, blacked eye pea. ?-have people come in but if you have an area where they can play, doesn't have to be loud.Sue- 5-6000 people that would come to this festivals, never heard any complaints. Trena-all these festivals, people want a rec center, a place for people of the community to go to, most of them say they would not go to festivals. Mike-I'm just the moderator. .. I know the CPAC group is looking at this including parks Trena-Where? Mike-Lots of land Trena-when, 20 years? ... Ronald- businesses didn't necessarily want a water park. Mike-I would like to see those surveys. (Cpac?) Individual surveys when city council asked for, possibilities of Oakdale Park. Nobody's arguing with you, you're here to give another opinion, the idea is to come to a consensus. YOu may think we're all coming against you but we're not. Have to look at the economic development..good happy medium to keep local citizens involved, huge number of locals. Smaller festivals, where they can create their own venues and really create economic development, thre will be people coming to town looking for things to do, do'nt need to be so self-centered that we only look for ourselves. Don't have a lot of things for them to do, need to be able to create renues and still ... local.. Trena-Tell me what you have that you're offering that we already have for our locals versus what is offered for our tourists. Mike-we do have parks. Offered. Have public parks, Tres Rios, Big Rocks Park, got to look at how we create a venue to create more excitement and options for our community and utilize it that way. I don't want to take away industry and that's our focus. Enhancement, that park is deplorable and I'm embarrassed to have it there.... Have to do it this way or we're gonna walk. Great opportunity, great asset here, all we're doing is building and prioritizing. Not what we're about is trying to sell somebody else on the committee on our ideas. Our job is to present to council. George(?) Tent camper, as far as Oakdale Park, our residents not happening, doesn't amount to a whole lot of residents. Competition here, family reunions, a lot of them, do not go to hotels, they won't and the only way you can attract them small cabins, those are not in competition to the hotels. Look like a nice little cabin in the woods, what's out there now is deplorable, but we've got to provide something.. got to do it right don't want to take away from our heritage and history, great way to preserve it and also offer something that looks pretty cool. Chris- building with several bunk beds-boy scouts. How we can arrange our RV parks to place these new sites or refurbish the sites we have... Oakdales going to come through with more money. Still need playground, stuff like that. Arrangement and layout needs to be able to facilitate. Good mix to put yourself into. Big Rocks, Hotels, Riverwalk, everything here and I think it would be very beneficial and very ... for .. things are kind of cyclical. Festivals not very well advertised. Biggest problem right now is nobody knows it's there.
