With Senator Kip Averitt’s resignation official at noon Wednesday, March 17, Governor Rick Perry wasted little time in calling a special election to fill the remainder of his term.
The unexpired term for the District #22 seat runs until the Texas Legislature convenes in January of next year.
The special election will be held Saturday, May 8, at the same time as school and city elections around the area.
Candidates of any political affiliation interested in the position have until 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, to file with the Secretary of State’s office in Austin.
