Why you should listen to this. This group is making decisions about how the buildings will look, what businesses can or can't be in either they Hwy 67 or Paluxy District Corridor (for example, feed stores with live animals and lawnmower shops are prohibited), and what types of signage should be there. There's going to be a public meeting to get feedback on the proposed changes and every single person that lives in this county ought to be there to put in 2 cents. Last night, no one from city council was there, but there were 2 representatives from the Preservation Board, as well as some members of the P&Z.

For me, I was interested in sidewalks. At a previous meeting I went to, the Freese & Nichols guy said, basically, who needs to have sidewalks that go all the way to Brookshire's on 67, just have them from hotels to the Expo Center. Well, I see kids walking all the time on Hwy 67 (and everyone knows the school is right on the other side of Brookshire's) and I believe we should have sidewalks all over town.. and encourage EVERYONE of whatever age to be able to walk.. and safely. I was glad to see that Larry Gannett, a developer who is on the P&Z board, also had a similar opinion.

Incidentally, there's one other area I think needs to be talked about, and that is, how much of what is being proposed as changes to Glen Rose are being done for the sake of tourism and business. A good friend of mine espoused the opinion that a vibrant downtown should not only be for tourists but also have other shops to get the people who LIVE HERE to come here to shop. For example, about the lawnmower shop. I'm pretty thrilled that I can get my small engine repairs done locally without having to drive to Granbury to do it. If lawmower repair shops were prohibited from downtown, and say, a coffee shop was put there instead, that might be good for a tourist coming into town, but should that be prioritized over a resident?

Anyway, here's audio, broken down into chunks because the meeting was over 2 hours long.

About zoning and annexing land

prohibitions on certain types of buildings

Building options

sidewalks,setbacks, landscaping buffers

downtown paluxy district and other comments
