A Few Items from the Somervell County Hospital Authority Check Register for January 2010

As mentioned before, I did a request via the Public Information Act to ask for a register of checks written for Somervell County Hospital Authority, to include account buckets and descriptions of the checks. I partially got what I asked for, but the report, which seemed to be a canned report by ORMAD\'s AP systems, seemed to only be for the vendor files and not other categories, and also did not include descriptions of checks. It would be like you looking at your check register at the end of the month and seeing a check written to so and so and trying to remember WHAT you wrote the check for. From a practical standpoint, it may be that there are no canned reports that will do what I\'m asking for, and I told Ray the accountant when I last saw him that I certainly wasn\'t asking him to do a bunch of manual editing. He told me the information is in the AP file, including descriptions, so that may be the way to go.  I have also asked via the Public Information Officer, Ms Leigh, if I could get the accountant\'s phone number directly. In one of the jobs I held, I was manager of IT accounting, and, while not an accountant, have some familiarity with accounting systems and reports.

At any rate, here\'s the problem. SCHA dba Glen Rose Medical Center is a public entity, supported by taxpayer money. One wants to be able to see a brief description of what the checks were written for without having to ask for scanned receipts. Which is less labor-intensive, especially if the descriptions are already in the AP file? But citizens that want to know the *what for* would have to ask for receipts.

There were some items in the check register that I wondered about. (Hospital here- Nursing Home here) -heard from other people that also wondered about some of the checks but my suggestion is to do your own public information request and, if you want, then send what you got to me and I\'ll post it.

Here are the ones that I asked about.

Hospital
Check # 64164 dated Jan 27, 2010 AMEEXP (American Express for $5,395.51)
Check # 65153 dated Jan 22 2010 ROGMAR (Roger E Marks Foundation for $538.20)
Check # 65149 dated Jan 22 2010 MICHAY (Michael Hay MD) 30.00

NH
Check # 6432 dated Jan 22 2010 ROGMAR (Roger E Marks Foundation for $116.87)
Check # 6442 dated Jan 27 2010 MIKDAV (Mike Davis MD) $1200.00
Check #6509 dated Jan 13, 2010 DOUPAI (Douglas B Pair) $1249.50

Itemized charges

I noticed there were pages missing from the American Express bill, so I asked for all the pages. Turned out that some of them were strictly advertising, but of course how is one to know that without asking?
