Fighting evil is good. Just sort of tripping and spilling coffee on evil's shoes is pretty stupid.-Xopher

Project O Week-Asking About that Bike Path on Tx Hwy 144 in Meridian Texas

Pretty obviously, last week I spent a significant amount of time looking at safety features for my bicycle. Where I live there is NO way to get to town without travelling on a highway, either Hwy 144 or Hwy 67. Therefore, I have coming to me a strobe tailight that I can use during the day but even better would be to have either something marked off as a biking lane on 144 or 67, OR a bike path. Someone told me that Meridian had a bike path on Hwy 144. I called up city hall in Meridian to ask and was told that TxDOT indeed had done this, but the person didn't know any details. I have now called the local TxDot guy to ask about it.

Daydreaming for a moment-imagine being able to go bicycle, not as a formal *ride* but as part of normal activities, including your children having a safe, although not completely risk free bike path to be able to get around. Seems like I don't see enough bicycle riders around here.

At one point, Margaret Drake a few years back talked about a walking/bike path that would go all the way from Big Rocks to the Water District. I've always thought that was a wonderful idea, and especially so now that I know what a great beach area the Water District will have for swimming and non-gas powered boats. And the CPAC people, in their study, showed that most people want a pedestrian friendly city. Well, so do I.

Will be interesting to see back how various entities have gotten bike paths put in.

P.S. Another person gave me a wonderful idea about looking at the map to see if there was a way to get to one of the streets that DOES have access to town more easily without resorting to the highway. Lots to think about.

And surely I am not the only person who thinks that being able to get around walking or bicycling would be a wonderful idea?

I'm going to tty to put in a street view link of where you can SEE that bike path on 144 outside Meridian.
