Open Letter to the GOP: Pass on Palin

Letter to the GOP re: Palin as a Presidential Candidate

To the GOP Leadership:

I recall I "became" a Republican when I was in elementary school during the 1950's and I worked with the GOP handing out leaflets and "I Like Ike" buttons to voters.  Dwight D. Eisenhower, a brilliant General, became our President and I was thrilled to be a very small part of that success.

Eisenhower was an intelligent, reasonable and community focused President and I was very proud to be an American and to call the GOP my party.

Unfortunately, during the past several decades I am not so proud any more.  It causes me and many other Republicans to ask, "What happened?"

Americans should be concerned that the GOP would support a person like Sarah Palin, who has the supreme nerve to run for President.  It would be a severe error and poor judgment by the Republican Party to support and sponsor Sarah Palin.  I hope it will not come to that.

There are many issues surrounding Palin, but the one that sticks out the most is that she QUIT her position as Governor of Alaska to promote her recent book and to tour the nation, trying to build up a support network for an attempt to promote herself as the next GOP presidential candidate to face President Barack Obama in the 2012 election.

Palin is grandiose and self-absorbed to act as she does.  The GOP already made its first mistake with Palin.  If the GOP lost with Senator John McCain, it will lose even worse with Sarah Palin as the primary presidential candidate.

We have time.  Please search out, locate and support a more qualified, intelligent and more "middle of the road" conservative to represent the American people.  In order to be successful now and in the future, the GOP must change from where it has evolved.

I would appreciate a response from someone leading the Party on this issue.  It is a grave concern for me and many of my Republican members.

Surely, there is a better presidential candidate that mirrors what the majority of the GOP membership wants and needs.

Sincerely,

Peter Stern
