Joelle Ogletree Thwarted from Substitute Teaching at GRISD Grievance Hearing Last Night (October 2009)
Part 1, which are public comments before the hearing started. In case you have no idea about the Joelle Ogletree case (and I have a decided opinion in writing about this), the basics are that several boys accused their high school teacher of inappropriate sex. Ogletree was indicted, the case went to trial, was declared a mistrial and the DA dismissed it, with jeopardy. One of the boys retracted his accusations and said they weren't true the day before the trial, and another did not testify under oath because the case was declared a mistrial before he could. Next, at a hearing with an administrative law judge in Austin, the judge ruled that what the boys had said was not true, (one of the boys didn't even come to the hearing although he said he would) and Ogletree's license as a teacher was renewed (You can look it for yourself on the TEA website) . Despite the fact that she has never been convicted, has her teaching license in Texas, has been through a criminal background check, and the boys were lying, GRISD will not allow her to teach there, be an official volunteer or substitute teach. There's quite a bit of background on this website concerning the case if you search on either Ogletree or Joelle Ogletree.
When Ogletree was turned down after applying to be a substitute teacher, she filed a grievance which was aired last night in a hearing during the school board meeting. Before the actual hearing, both she and her husband, Doug Ogletree, made public comments.
Here is Mr. Ogletree.
He spoke on the increase on litigation. Which litigation? Community should be aware that there are *suits*. One of them is the one from 7 years ago and the other has been filed under the watch of this board.
Joelle Ogletree's Public Comments
She brought up an interesting point-that GRISD has offered, as one of their nonprivate settlement discussions, to write her a letter to help her get employment in a different school district.Obviously, then, GRISD doesn't view her any kind of threat-or that would make them morally bankrupt to foist someone they thought was a danger to kids on a different school district.
P.S. For those who are keeping track, the Ogletrees have an appeal of a summary judgement requested by GRISD and signef off on by Judge Bridewell-that's at the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals and has not been ruled on yet.
