Got Back a Reply From Request to Texas Senate Media Services about their Budget

My central question here is: why is media produced by the Texas Legislature copyrighted when the taxpayer pays for the whole thing..  As mentioned in that post, I had asked the Texas House for a copy of the budget regarding that department, but was told not only did they have no way to send out the budget to electronic media but it would cost me about 75 bucks to get the info. I decided that since the House spokesman told me that 100 percent of that budget, and including the Senate media and the TLC is paid for by us, that that was good enough.

The other day I got back a reply from my request to the Texas Senate. I'm not going to post all the pages, which I'd need to scan into paper, but here's a very good summary.

What's pretty interesting is that in all cases the media, which includes high quality video of the Senate sessions and all Senate committee meetings, not only is sent out on Time Warner in Austin (and of course we don't see that here in Glen Rose) but also to the Senate Media web office.

in 2009, to date (9 months)

Recording Media-approximately 450 hours of session video and 640 hours of committee video produced, along with 300 hours or recording media for newscasts and 100 hours of media for miscellaneous productions for senators.

Total video recording media supply costs $1419.40

Labor Costs 13,972 for Jan-May, $6, 822 month of June 2009, and $4,572 in months of July and August

For stats the paper shows that there was approximately 1087 hours of audio recorded at 666.24 (.64 cents for media supply) Labor costs were 11,0007.93  per month.

There's also included a breakdown of how much time the web department spends on each task, broken down.
