and their line includes Somervell County. Saw the public notice in the Glen Rose Reporter Newspaper which says, in part

At the direction of the Texas Legislature, the Public Utility Commission of West Texas(PUCT) created five geographic Competitive Renewable Resource Zones (CREZs) in West Texas and the Texas Panhandle. These are areas for the development of new wind generation plants the PUCT also ordered utilities, including Lone Star, to build over 2,300 miles of new transmission lines to connect these zones with other parts of Texas. Lone Star Transmission plans to construct approximately 300 miles of these new transmission lines to bring electricity from wind-rich areas of West Texas to consumers throughout the state. The preliminary proposed routes cross the following counties: Scurry, Fisher, Jones, Mitchell, Taylor, Callahan, Shackelford, Stephens, Eastland, Palo Pinto, Erath, Comanche, Somervell, Johnson, Bosque, Hill and Navarro.

Here\'s the link to their website.

I see they are either holding or have held public meetings about this. For us, the closest two are

Tuesday October 13, 2009 5:00-8:00 pm at the Stephenville High School Cafeteria, 2655 West Overhill Drive, Stephenville.

and

Wednesday October 14, 2009 5:00-8:00 pm at Meridian Civic Center 306 River Street, Meridian Texas

It appears this is an open house as opposed to, say, a public hearing where people can stand up and make comments into a mike, but I\'m not sure.

Community outreach for this project is planned through several methods:

  • Lone Star plans to schedule open house meetings in several areas so landowners and other interested persons can ask questions and provide feedback to us on the project. Participants will be able to view maps and displays that explain the project.

  • This Web site will be periodically updated to provide the latest information on the project status.

  • Residents can e-mail any questions or thoughts or call us toll free at 1-877-278-8097.

A direct-mail notice of public meeting(s) will be provided to landowners within 500 feet of preliminary alternative routing for transmission lines, in accordance with rules set by the Public Utility Commission of Texas. Lone Star also plans to place a notice of the meeting in local area newspapers. In addition, the Public Utility Commission of Texas will be holding public hearings on the transmission line projects.

I wonder if this is related to T Boone Pickens?

UPDATE: Somervell County Commissioners passed a resolution on August 9 asking the PUC to not okay the route through Somervell.
