Don't Like Toll Roads? TxDOT doesn't care what you think- Highway 130 Near Seguin, Texas

Cintra Strikes Again.

Cintra, a Spanish toll road operator will fund, build and run the new toll road. Cintra’s contract on the road is for the next 50 years, allowing the company to make money off its investment.

I see the city leaders and chamber of Seguin are excited about this.

So I do wonder. Has the Trans Texas Corridor merely changed names to being now the Central Texas Turnpike System?????

The initial 49-mile toll road will run from I-35 north of Georgetown to U.S. 183 south of Austin. The $1.5 billion project is the first in Texas to use innovative new financing tools, including the selling of bonds and a comprehensive development agreement, to speed construction.

Other components of the first phase of the Central Texas Turnpike System that will be financed from the sale of $2.2 billion in bonds last year, are:

  • A 13-mile segment of State Highway 45 from Ridgeline Boulevard west of U.S 183 to State Highway 130.

  • A 3-mile extension of Loop 1 (MoPac) from FM 734 (Parmer Lane) to State Highway 45.

The first phase of the Central Texas Turnpike System, including State Highway 130, is expected to be complete by the end of 2007. The project would have taken an additional 25 years to complete using traditional financing.

“Tremendous population growth requires transportation policies and practices that keep up with the times,” Perry said. “In the past, we would often expand lanes on existing highways, but by the time those projects were finished, growth required another expansion.”

VOTE.... PERRY .... OUT!
