Glen Rose ISD (GRISD) To Begin Posting Checkbook Registry Online Starting in October 2009

6 August 2009 at 8:48:16 AM

We are pretty delighted here. Somervell County Salon has been posting the vendor payments aka checkbook registry for the districtfor records since January 1 2007.  Last month we asked Wayne Rotan to please put the check registry online on the GRISD site. Yesterday, when I got my latest open records request for the registry, Judy Shipman said

You will be glad to know that for the new fiscal year which begins in September, 2009, we are going to process the check registers after they have been presented to the board for the month.  This means that September's check register will be published on the website after the October board meeting.  You should not have to request this information anymore after that time.

Really great news and we definitely appreciate it. (The fields, incidentally, we have asked for on our reports have been check date, check number, vendor description, amount and account number bucket (from the TEA website).

In case you're wondering what schools in Texas have put their check registries online, here's a link to Peyton Wolcott's site (she lives in Horseshoe Bay).

Thank you, GRISD, Wayne Rotan and Judy Shipman who prepares the reports. We strongly believe in being able to easily see how our taxpayer money is spent, and having the check registries online is beneficial to the community.

P.S. We have also asked that the audio from each school board meeting be put up on the GRISD website, easily available to download,  and hope this will happen as well. We enjoy attending various public meetings and video record them when we can; when we cannot be there, we have sometimes requested the audio. Having it be part of the procedure for open meetings and public records within a reasonable amount of time after a board meeting from the GRISD website would aid and inform the community who for whatever reason weren't able to attend.

P.P.S. We also continue to want to see each public governmental entity in the community post audio from meetings to website, as we wrote in March 2009. As said before, we record meetings when we can and post them here because we value the ability for all to hear (or see) meetings in which decisions about citizen's monies, property and welfare are being made; but we consider that each governmental entity can and should make it available from their website(s).
