Why Texans Should NOT Vote Sen. Kirk Watson for Governor

We need REAL leadership

Senator Kirk Watson runs under the umbrella of being a Democrat; however, his voting history shows a different slant --- one that is a history of voting for the agendas pushed by Governor Rick Perry, catering to the needs and wants of wealthy special interests instead of working in the best interests of the People of Texas.

I will name 2 urgent issues that have shown Watson as a poor "leader":  Transportation and Higher Education.  He is at the top of the political food chain on both these issues and has performed poorly for the Texas community.

Our transportation issues have not improved.  The governor, along with Watson, [who is on the Senate Committee on Transportation & Home Security, also is a commissioner on CAMPO], have continued to push for toll roads above any alternative options, have enabled the decade-long gas tax freeze to continue and have permitted the diversion of our gas tax revenue to other interests, all of which have largely contributed to the lack of sufficient revenue for the building and maintenance of our roadways.

In addition, lackluster oversight of TxDOT has permitted the agency to circumvent its accountability to Texans and has contributed to a waste of our tax dollars, e.g., the advertising of the toll agenda and even permitted using our tax dollars for TxDOT to lobby in Washington for laws that would enable the agency to build toll roads on our existing and paid-for roadways.

By the way, another consideration for governor, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison was instrumental in developing and approving the federal bill that ensured state transportation agencies could NOT build toll roads on already paid for roadways.

As for higher education, Watson was one of the prominent "leaders" along with Perry who pushed for the deregulation of higher education tuition, which since resulted in universities like UT increasing tuition costs 4 times and has contributed to the unaffordability of a private university education for many of our Texas children.

These are only 2 urgent issues whereby Perry and lawmakers like Watson have failed hardworking and hardly working Texans.

So, please wake-up and see Watson for what he is... responsible for many of our problems and NOT a resolution for them.  Sen. Kirk Watson has NOT earned our support for governor.

Well, some things never change.

What I plan to do is to vote for Sen. Hutchison in the GOP Primary, simply to get rid of Perry once and for all.  Then I will look around to see who is running on the Democratic and Independent tickets for a more viable candidate.

While I am NOT any sort of Hutchison "groupie", she is the first line of defense against another Perry term.  Might as well get rid of him as soon as we can.

You're right. That might be worth doing just to get rid of Perry
