Favorite Line For Sarah *I'm a Quitter* Palin's Press Conference

from James Wolcott

She sounds nervous, pinched, but at least a large animal isn't being loudly disemboweled behind her

I feel like I'm watching a Coen brothers movie.

Like most articles about Palin, this one as well is smarta-- , and provides no real information.  After watching the unedited video, I have not read a single article which begans to cover what she said.  Like her or not, she did not say what she was going to do. She explained that they have over a 1/2 million dollars in legal fees, and yet has not been convicted of anything,  Hillary Clinton went through very much the same thing, but had the money to continue on her course.  Again, like her or not, she has accomplished more than any reporter, the lack of respect in the news media, on both sides, is out of controll.

@James-course that's because Wolcott is a witty humour writer and not news. I remember how utterly funny it was when she was doing that press conference and chickens were being decapatited behind her.

I personally think she should have finished what she started. She only became governor in 2006 and her term wasn't up. I would argue about whether she has accomplished more than any reporter, first because I don't think you can compare what one does as a politician with what one should do as a reporter and second, because I am not impressed by her so-called credentials.

and as a reminder, what Wolcott was referring to was when Palin pardoned a turkey, and slaughter was going on behind her. That was truly hilar.

Sorry, but I don't see the humor when a state has paid over $300,000.00 in legal fees for ethic complaints such as wearing a jacket in sub zero tempertures with a logo on it, and a family can't pay to answer such allegations on what they make.  Since she is in the mix, I would like to know her credentials not witty humor.

@James-Here's a list from AP of the ethics complaints filed against Sarah Palin that quotes directly from the Anchorage Daily News. In general, I think any citizen has the right to file ethics complaints against elected officials-one would hope always that there is a basis for the complaints and not mere frivolity or harrassment. However, for example, Sid Miller has been dinged twice that I know of by citizens who filed ethics complaints against him to the TEC (Texas Ethics Commission)., most recently for not listing a business he has in common with a lobbyist. Many times I'm sure that complaints are dismissed for public employees for lack of merit or other reasons, but that certainly doesn't mean that citizens should not say something if they believe that their elected officials are acting improperly. Of course, they may be WRONG but that has should not preclude bringing it up.

From the Miami Herald

The bulk of the expenses – $187,797 – appear to stem from Troopergate, the messy case involving Palin's former brother-in-law, a state trooper, who got on the wrong side with Palin and her family.

Palin herself initiated at least a part of the ethics case to counter a legislative investigation into the same matter. An additional Troopergate ethics complaint was brought by the state troopers union, which complained Palin and others improperly disclosed confidential personnel and workers' compensation records of her former brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, and engaged in systematic efforts to have Wooten fired. The personnel board dismissed the union complaint.

The newly released expense list doesn't specify the nature of each case listed. It only provides internal case numbers followed by the total expenses incurred for each one of the cases. The board won't say which case numbers correspond with which complaint, or provide a detailed breakdown of the expenses. Under state law, ethics complaints are secret unless the subject of the complaint waives privacy.
