"In this first-ever one-on-one interview by any US president to the Pakistani media, Mr Obama assured the Pakistani nation that he has no desire to seize Pakistan’s nuclear weapons or send US troops inside the country...

Asked to comment on Ayatollah Khamenei’s statement that the US was interfering in Iran’s internal affairs, Mr Obama said what’s happening in Iran was remarkable. ‘To see hundreds of thousands of people in peaceful protest against an election that obviously raised a lot of doubts tells us that this is an issue that the Iranian people care deeply about.’

‘We respect Iran’s sovereignty, but we also are witnessing peaceful demonstrations, people expressing themselves, and I stand for that universal principle that people should have a voice in their own lives and their own destiny. And I hope that the international community recognises that we need to stand behind peaceful protests and be opposed to violence or repression.’

As a side note, I have only peripherally followed the elections over there. Seems like quite a few people here of whatever political stripe have been focused on Iran. It's interesting to me that, as opposed to so many other countries with elections, there's so much energy being spent on that country.

Iran (Persia) is a fascinating country with a long, rich history. With such a high percentage of young people wanting change and modernization, it does seem to be on the brink. I do believe we are in the midst of major change all over the world as the old, corrupt and toxic systems crumble so better ones can be created.

My guess is that the 'change' will take decades. We are being required to do nothing less than reinvent ourselves and the way we live. What we've created up to now is just not sustainable anymore. The intolerance and hatred in the world will have to go, too. Nothing less than a real shift in consciousness is what we (humans) will need in order to continue.  What would be the point of living another century or millennium in the same old program?

We have the intelligence, the creativity and the guts to do this. We just have to put away fear and make the commitment. I remember a wise friend saying to me decades ago, " It's really quite simple. I can either be positive or I can be negative."

I've also learned that simple is the most difficult. I'm challenged every moment.
