which was hugely pleasant and interesting. Here's their website. Some positives-they're planning on establishing a Texas Parks and Wildlife Padding Trail on the Brazos near Glen Rose; they're in some negotiations about water rights on the Brazos as attempting to be defined by the BRA. (As I understood the explanation, right now the BRA controls about half the water, including leasing it out, and is making plans to have control over the other half. How this affects us here is that the BRA releases water usually every Saturday and Sunday, not necessarily during the week, for weekend canoing, etc.) Plans also underway for the Fall Fund Raiser. We went last year and thought it was great!

The one disturbing item to hear was the proposed John Graves Scenic Riverway designation for Hood and Somervell fell through. Apparently Sid Miler (Tx House District 59) was the sponsor of the bill. At the last minute, some lobbyists representing the mining interests around here convinced Miller to drop the bill. As I understood it, the rationale was that if there was any type of regulationi that would limit how mining (including gravel mining, etc) does business, it would kill those businesses. Miller apparently also talked with the local county commissioners who agreed, even though they had previously supposed the John Graves waterway, that it was good thing not to have it. However, I believe that Parker and one other county that already have the John Graves waterway do have some type of environmental regulation in place. It's also more than a little ironic that John Graves actually lives IN Somervell County...... just sayin'.

I believe these are the 2 bills that were in the Lege this session.

Well, we certainly don't want to stand in the way of another gravel operation, now, do we? Rubbish.
