Well That was Weird- Software Bug that Manifests Itself After Thunderstorms:)

We had some really bad weather come rolling through here last night. I was, as I said on a different post, out in Granbury all day, and was utterly exhausted when I got home. The teevee was going with some delighted weathermen showing video and weather maps of some mammoth storms rolling through the metroplex. I started to do one last repair to the chicken house as I"m wanting to move one chicken and her babies into it, but the wind picked up to such an extent (and there was some wicked looking lightning) that I decided to run into the house. The weather station showed thunderstorms and tornados and I was glad to be inside. I then watched a movie, which, to be perfectly honest, I slept through part of and then went to bed.

When I woke up, our internet connection was down and when it did come back up again, I saw that for some really weird reason Somervell County Salon was doing a redirect to another website, which happens to be one, if you've noticed, that I store documents on, including the audio and video files. I was thinking, WHAT THE FOOL, and of course had to chase down why that was happening.

WARNING TECHIE TALK AHEAD.

AFter looking through my site code for awhile, I found a piece of code that I've had for a long time that, in case of an error, would redirect to thet other site. Basically, the code goes out and checks a list I have of RSS feeds, and then adds the items to a database table. If you've seen the Stream O News on the site, that's what that's for-it's there to look for current news on RSS feeds I like and then I display them on the site. (I use MBBS code and the function is a modified WriteRSSBox). Except that if the code doesn't think it's getting back a valid XML 200 response, it jumps(jumped) to the redirect.  I am not sure at this point if it's coincidental that we had bad weather and our local internet service was down Or if it just happened to get that error at the same approximate time. I see that the error 200 can come back if the server gets a malformed response, and that can be caused by it being unable to access the internet. So I'm guessing that was the problem. At any rate, I altered the redirect part. It's just funny because that potential error has been in there for, what, 4 years? And it took a really bad thunderstorm to trigger it.
