Disabled Veterans Tax Exempt Bill Sitting on Governor's Desk

8 June 2009 at 5:50:26 PM

Gov. Rick Perry still has not signed HB 3613, which would provide 100% Disabled Veterans with a 100% Property Ad Valorum Tax Exemption.  Other Disabled Veterans would also receive a tax exemption proportionate to the percent of their disability.

What is the governor waiting for?

I just sent him an email asking him when he plans on signing this important bill.  Will update you all if/when I receive a response or if I hear anything from another source.

The following is the status of the bill from the site of the House of Representatives [see check marks]:

If he does nothing, doesn't it become law within x amount of days? Of course, that wouldn't be the same thing as actively participating and signing the law. Perhaps he's too busy going to the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

He needs to sign it.  Period.  He is a Veteran also.  This should have been the first bill legislators approved and the first one Perry signed.  It would have made a positive statement after they screwed it up 2 years ago, making Veterans wait when they could have had this bill approved in 2007 and would have saved 2 years worth of property taxes.

Dear Governor Perry,

I sincerely request you sign into law HB 316.  It has been long deserved by the 100% disabled veterans of Texas and  it

truly deserves your prompt attention.

Don, as I wrote in a more updated blog, the governor did sign HB 3613 and 100% Disabled Veterans may go online to the Texas Comptrollers Office and download the exemption form needed to get the exemption for this year.

How does HB3613 affect veterans that are 100% unemployable ( 80% rating)?

Hi Bobby,

Any Veteran that is 80% disabled with Unemployable will get the 100% Exemption.

You will need to file an application with your county appraisal office.  You can complete and download the 100% exemption online form from the Office of the Texas Comptroller, or you can contact your county appraisal office and have them send you a form via regular mail when they get it.

Hope that helps you.
