TEA Party in Meridian (Texas) is for Republicans

15 April 2009 at 1:33:09 PM

I had heard that the Tea parties were actually a Republican stunt. This proves it. From the Clifton Record.

MERIDIAN — T.E.A. stands for "taxed enough already." A T.E.A. Party is slated April 15, "Tax Day" from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Bosque County Courthouse in Meridian. The party is for everyone who feels they have been taxed enough — whether Republican, Democrat, or Independent. This event will be taking place all around the country on April 15.

"The approach of our current Democratic government reminds me of trying to fix a wrecked auto with a bad engine, missing wheels, and leaking fuel tank by simply pumping in more and more gasoline," said Republican Party President Tom Bratcher. "Many of us in Bosque County share a united and common concern over the excessive taxation on this and future generations, a Congress and President who do not have our best interests at heart, and their excessive spending. We share a frustration with the manner in which this spending and these social programs are being forced upon the American people without going through the usual process. We do have a voice if we join together."

Despite saying that this is for everyone, by starting out the info about the TEA party with a diatribe about Democratic president and congress, the true intent of this stunt is shown. I also am frustrated but to pretend that Republicans who have also allowed the system to get into this type of shape WITHOUT ACCOUNTABILITY are without dirty hands is misleading at best.

Here's what NY Times writer, Paul Krugman, had to say about the 'tea' parties.

Great article. A clipped paragraph

Last but not least: it turns out that the tea parties don’t represent a spontaneous outpouring of public sentiment. They’re AstroTurf (fake grass roots) events, manufactured by the usual suspects. In particular, a key role is being played by FreedomWorks, an organization run by Richard Armey, the former House majority leader, and supported by the usual group of right-wing billionaires. And the parties are, of course, being promoted heavily by Fox News.

Just because he happens to be a Republican, that doesn't make his comments partisan. The elected officials here in Bosque county are almost all Democratics, but that doesn't mean they have to be happy with the additional taxation just because they are in the same party as the majority of Congress.

Um. Mr Bratcher is Republican Party President. for Bosque County. His first shot out of the box is a dig at Democrats. That, m'dear is partisan and it has nothing to do with what party the elected officials in Bosque county are affiliated with. Were they all Republicans it would still make his comments partisan. The tea party is a stunt.

The first thing that comes to my mind anytime I hear complaints about raising federal taxes or spending is where were these concerned citizens when the GW Bush regime illegally invaded Iraq? The current estimate of this and the 'war' in Afghanistan is around $ 846 BILLION and counting. This figure probably does not include the damage done to our soldiers or the cost of supporting their needs for many years to come nor the massive money given to fraudulent contractors.   costofwar.com/

And why were you silent when that same administration destroyed our fiscal surplus, reduced our revenue by unfairly giving the real tax breaks to the wealthiest and conveniently looked the other way as the fraudulent practices of the most elite banks in our country took us to the ditch?

I hold all of our leaders responsible for this travesty. But our citizens have made their own contributions with their delusion and denial.

I have problems with of some of the choices made by our President. But I also realize that the state our country was in when he took office can only be described as a total disaster. A system that is as bought as ours will not be changed quickly. It's easy to criticize now that our choices for solutions are few. (Just in case you have forgotten, Republicans have been the dominant party in power for all but 12 of the last 40 years before President Obama).

Where were you, Mr. Bratcher, and what solutions are you offering? Self-imposed ignorance is very expensive, isn't it?
